Today the Offshore fishing picked up from yesterday.  No Billfish were reported but alot of really nice sized Dolphin were caught.  Several citations were turned in today for Dolphin over 40 pounds.  Good amounts of Yellowfin Tuna were caught today on some boats along with some Wahoo.  The Offshore fishing has started to get a little tougher with captains really having to hone in on fish patterns on a daily basis.  Most days start out slow and then finish with a bang when captains are able to zero in on fish.  The days of running out and catching a limit of tuna on the temp change and then back at the docks by lunch are behind us.  However, Summertime is the Apex time to fish and the catches are a better mix with lots of dolphin, good amounts of Tuna, and the occasional Wahoo mixed in.  Blue Marlin are starting to be caught daily and the days of double digit White Marlin hook ups are right around the corner.  Today many of the fish tickets were over 400 pounds and that should continue as long as the weather holds up.

The Nearshore fleet started slow this morning and finished with a bang with several boats catching double digit numbers of Cobia.  The afternoon trips did the best with Cobia being spotted in large numbers.  Good amounts of Dolphin and King Mackerel were caught on all day Near Shore trips along with some Barracuda.   The Cobia situation has been an interesting topic this year.  Typically the large groups of Cobia we see in late spring and early summer have already made their spawning runs into the Chesapeake Bay.  Cobia still haven’t showed there in big numbers this year leaving many to believe that most are spawning in the sounds here locally.  Although Cobia are not being caught in the sound it wouldnt be abnormal given that they only have one thing in mind after moving through the inlet.

The Inshore fishing is still fantastic with limits of Speckled Trout being caught daily.  Quite a few Red Drum are starting to show up and be caught.  Shrimp have started showing in the sound in big numbers and some of the trout caught are exceeding five pounds!
