Who would believe that it’s mid October!  Despite some thick fog this morning the day turned out beautiful with sunny skies and light wind for most of the day.  There were a ton of boats booked to fish this morning but only a few headed out because of the fog this morning.  It’s one thing to try and work your way out through the narrow bridge spans at the inlet on a clear morning, but an entirely different ball game when visibility is down to 50 feet.  Tomorrow is supposed to be another hard NE blow and with the winds already starting to pick up this afternoon everyone wanted to make the most of today.  It looks like our friends from the fishing center are headed back to their port of call today.  It’s been fun having them here swapping fish stories and keeping everyone twice as busy.  However, I’m sure there really happy being back home.  One of the great things about the community here is how everyone comes together and is always eager to help when others are in need.  Things couldn’t have gone smoother and we wish them all the best of luck now that things are getting back to normal.

Well it’s depressing to think the wind is going to start again tomorrow because the fishing offshore was red hot.  I just spoke with the first captain on the way in and he had an amazing 45 gaffer dolphin, 11 yellowfin tuna, and a sailfish!  It sounds like the other boats really dialed in on dolphin today and some good yellowfin catches.  This is such an outstanding time of year to be offshore fishing here.  People go on one fishing trip and have enough fish to fill the freezer for the next year.  Then you have shots at not only grand slams but double grand slams (meat and billfish) like we almost saw yesterday with one boat just a white marlin shy.  It’s just a matter of having the wind on your side and having a good day to fish.  Now that the tuna are here things get really explosive and exciting so definately pick a date and get it booked while you can.

The nearshore fleet is about as kid friendly as you can get and today there were two different families fishing.  As a parent one of the greatest gifts you can pass on is your passions.  Having an oppurtunity to play a part in that is pleasure for all our captains.  Seeing those little smiling faces makes all the hard work worth it especially knowing that you’ve sparked something in the kids that will forever bring them joy.  I just spoke to the captain that ran those two trips and he said they had a blast catching sea mullet, flounder, grey trout, and bluefish.  Our sound guide did good too catching some nice rockfish in the sound.  He said things started a little slow but towards the end things really heated up.  If nothing else fishing definately teaches us how much patients can pay off!

It looks like this blow will be quick and we will be back on the water pretty fast.  The nearshore fleet will undoubtably continue to fish regardless given them having so much success lately when the wind is howling.  We’ve got boats still available for late in the coming week so call us at 1-800-367-4728 or visit us at staging.pcdev.flywheelsites.com and we will take care of the rest!  Take care and have a great week!
