Well looks like the weather forecasters were right so far about the wind predictions.  We woke up this morning to winds out of the NE at 25 kts and 7 ft seas offshore.  So needless to say nobody headed offshore today.  The million dollar question is, "will the marlin bite still be as hot after this is said and done?"  It looks like it’s going to blow to at least sunday at this point.  Nobody can make a prediction with any certainty given all the variables involved.  However, over the last few weeks everytime we had a good NE blow the marlin fishing was world class with some boats getting up to 28 white marlin right after.  But all good things must come to end inevitably.  I was looking at the updated satellite imagery and the warm eddie that was holding so many marlin is still there and so far hasn’t been effected much by the front.  So, let’s keep our fingers crossed that this eternal summer of world class fishing won’t end anytime soon!

In the opposite direction, where the tuna bite has been, sat images haven’t changed much either.  Honestly, it’s doubtful that area will change too much given it’s location.  The warm water there will hopefully be pushed in some.  This will give everyone easy access to one of the world’s best yellowfin tuna run’s we’re hoping to have again this fall.  Regardless it would appear there are huge numbers of dolphin here at the moment also.  There will be, without a doubt, some exciting things to see around the docks in the coming weeks.  Everyone is especially eager to see what occurs come Monday and Tuesday.  I know the captains will be eager to pounce after the novelty of getting things done around the house wears off.

We did have two nearshore trips today that stayed in the Inlet and really did pretty well under the circumstances.  They landed a mixed bag of species including grey trout, flounder, sea mullet, and bluefish.  Right now and over the next few weeks there are more species here than at any other time of the year.  One minute you can be catching spanish mackerel and blues then the next your running over to catch false albacore and Triggerfish.  There have been some reports of King Mackerel being caught right now and despite a few years with them being notibly absent we are well over due for an outstanding run this fall.  They don’t call them kings for nothing, and they would be a welcomed addition to the great catches we will be hopefully seeing nearshore.
